    Specialist Education and Childcare Centre ”PARKOWA” (hereinafter: SECC PARKOWA)  is an independent organizational unit within the social welfare system of Cracow municipality, organized and operating as a budget entity.

Being a socialization centre, SECC PARKOWA provides round-the-clock care and education for children and teenagers. Having characteristics of a specialist unit, it provides care to children and teenagers undergoing educational problems related to adolescent crisis, family conflicts, behavioral disorders and other significantly intensified psychological disorders.

Our purpose is to provide children and teenagers, as well as their parents, with help in relation to:

  • minimizing emotional and behavioral disorders;

  • learning how to cope with anger and emotional strain;

  • reducing aggression level;

  • learning how to respond to conflict situations;

  • improving child-parent and parent-child relationships;

  • dealing with educational problems that occur in the period of adolescence

 Vision

of Specialist Education and Childcare Centre ”PARKOWA”

  • Specialist Ecucation and Childcare Centre ”PARKOWA” exercises highly specialist tutelary, educational and therapeutic activities for the benefit of children and teenagers suffering from behavioral, emotional and other psychological disorders.

  • It provides its pupils with an opportunity of continuing education at appropriate levels, inter alia thanks to a secondary school unit that operates within the centre.

  • It also helps parents of the children staying at the centre by way of organizing individual and group meetings and consultations.

  • SECC PARKOWA performs its tasks on the basis of its own educational and therapeutic programs, created by its highly-skilled staff members who understand problems and needs of young people very well.

  • Pupils leaving STCC PARKOWA are independent persons, capable of taking responsibility for their decisions and choices, understanding the surrounding reality, knowing how to find their own place in that reality and recognizing other persons’ rights.

Mission

of Specialist Education and Childcare Centre ”PARKOWA” 

 

We help adolescents and their families by way of tutelary, educational, therapeutic ad didactic activities.

Our work is largely based on our own programs, which are, in any case, adapted to individual needs and abilities of our clients.

 

 We kindly ask any generous individuals and companies for supporting our centre by way of any cash or non-cash donations.

 

 Particularly appreciated items are:

  • clothing and shoes for children between 13 and 18 years of age,

  • food products,

  • products of construction and interior decoration sector i.e. paints, varnishes, floor and wall tiles, etc.,

  • room furniture,

  • television equipment and household electronic appliances.

We will also highly appreciate any financial donations which will be used for satisfying our specific needs, including:

  • organization of summer and winter holidays for our pupils;

  • construction of a sports field with artificial surface;

  • construction of a roof over the existing swimming pool in order to transform it into a sports hall;

  • construction of a children’s playground

FORMS OF AID

 

The mission of SECC Parkowa consists in providing children with a possibility to come back to their family or helping them gain independency and a decent transition to adulthood.

The aid ids offered by multidimensional activities, including:

-          therapeutic and education activities addressed to a child

-          cooperation with parents

-          cooperation with the entire family (integration of the entire family in the systemic therapy sessions)

 

The objectives of the aforesaid activities are:

 

in relation to a child: 

  • improving relations with parents

  • smoothing away emotional deficits

  • eliminating behavioural disorders

  • readaptation (shaping socially minded attitudes)

  • creating a possibility of discharging from the schooling obligation

 in relation to parents: 

  • diagnosing and solving family problems

  • assisting parents in the fulfilment of their parental duties

  • improving communication between parents and children

  • strengthening child-parent relationships

  • teaching how to apply more efficient education methods

  • coping with emotional difficulties being a frequent consequence of personal problems

  • social aid

  • moderating a crisis by way of improving a child's school results

 The crucial issue is to appreciate the significant influence of parents on the education process of their children. We do not aim at discharging parents from their parental duties and responsibilities

 

 

FORMS/METHODS OF WORK

 

SECC Parkowa applies and implements various forms and methods of therapeutic activities that are addressed to the children staying at our centre, as well as to their parents and families. In addition we apply certain forms of work for the benefit of the children, which do not involve their direct participation.

 

The following activities are offered in our programme:

 

A) For children staying at our centre:

B) For the benefit of children staying at our centre

 

1. Consultations

2. Clinical meetings

3. Systemic consultatio

4. Cooperation with institutions involved in helping families and children (MOPS, PCPR, probation officers, courts of law, schools, addiction treatment centres eg. MONAR, etc.)

 

Consultations are related to the process of diagnosing problems encountered by a child and are carried out in a group including: tutor, educationalist, psychologist, psychiatrist and nurse, which allows for comprehensive understanding of a child's problems and modifying therapeutic programs according to specific needs.

 

Clinical meetings consist in discussing the course of therapeutic and education process of a particular child. They are aimed at discussing an individual therapeutic programme prepared for a given child, as well as taking further decisions as to therapeutic and educational measures.

 

Systemic consultation is related to variety of issues concerning the current situation of a child with particular regard to tutorial, educational, therapeutic and health issues. Systemic consultation is carried out with participation of a wider range of specialists, comparing to the consultations, i.e. tutor, educationalist, psychologist, psychiatrist, nurse, plus director of the centre and representatives of other institutions in charge of helping children, such as MOPS representative, professional probation officer, public guardian, form teacher, etc.

Significant portion of classes offered at out centre, both to children and their families is organized in form of workshops.

One of our work methods is so called social survey carried out by a welfare worker together with an educationalist or a psychologist.
